Joey Guel started training in mixed martial arts is April 1999 in Olympia WA under Dennis Hallman.  Dennis took Joey to A.M.C. Pankration in Kirkland , WA , where he met world renowned MMA coach Matt Hume. At A.M.C, Joey spent over 2 ½ years developing his Muay Thai and Pankration skills on a daily basis with some of the soon to be best MMA athletes on the planet, such as Josh Barnett and Ivan Salavery.

It was at A.M.C. where the “Coyote” amassed a 10-0 MMA record with three title victories to his credit.  In 2002 Joey started teaching kickboxing at Dennis Hallman’s new and improved gym Victory Athletics back in Olympia and made his pro debut at a venue in Denver , CO where he was victorious by submission in under 40 seconds. Around 2004 Joey relocated to Portland , OR and joined the world famous Team Quest. Joey spent approximately 2 ½ years there refining his skill set as well as developing new ones with over 10 top tier pro MMA fighters on the mat every team practice.

Joey found that at Team Quest, the team part was a big part of their success.  2006, and now back in Olympia , Joey starts training traditional Brazilian jiu-jitsu at Olympia BJJ under BJJ black belt Robert Owens.  Simultaneously, he began working extensively with Carlos Hernandez, professional boxing coach for the IFL’s Seattle Tiger Sharks.  The “Coyote” spends 2 years coaching kickboxing and MMA at Olympia BJJ, as well as personally coaching/cornering  pro MMA fighters for their up and coming bouts in organizations such as the UFC, IFL and M-1 Global.  Now a purple belt in BJJ, he looks to take his ground game to a new level under Marcelo Alonso and share his technique and experience with his new team.

“Coyote” thanks MMA for taking him to many places in the world he would have never gone without it. Thank You: Dennis Hallman, Brad Blackburn, Benji Radach, Jeff Monson, Carlos Hernandez, Todd Parra, Reece Andy, Travis Doerge, Joel Petit, Robert Owens, Matt Hume, Josh Barnett, Ivan Salavery, Aaron Riley, Maurice Smith, Matt Lindland, Ryan Schultz, Matt Horowich, Nate Quarry, Ed Herman, Chris Leban, Shawn Gaspaire, Nick Laudenglos, and now Marcelo Alonso.
